Hello all, it has been quite some time since we posted anything. About three years honestly. Heres a little update from me:
For those that don't know I have been attending The University of Texas. I initially started out in Electrical Engineering, but have recently transferred to Civil Engineering. Now it may seem cliche, but this change made me realize a lot of things; specifically about doing what you want to do and learning about what interests you. One great class I have taken was Introduction to Computing with Dr. Yale Patt. He was a great teacher and a character. He is famous in the EE field and he knows it (he legitimately wrote the textbook). At 76 years old, he is still kicking and travels the world. Each week I realize that I learned more than previously thought I had.
One of our members, Ben Bailey, has started doing webpage creation and development. Hopefully we can get him on here to help us update this thing so it doesn't look like a bunch of 13 year olds created it, (even though it is exactly that.) Of course, the name will stay!
Ben actually came to visit me in Austin last weekend and we attended some SXSW events. In particular a career fair, and my favorite SXSW Create. I know the following day he went back and attended a general assembly presentation on numerous business related topics such as "How to Get Your Startup Off of the Ground" and "How to Make a Pitch". It'd be cool to hear about those. As I mentioned before I thought SXSW Create was a great experience. Seeing the numerous interactive booths, I felt like I was at a grownups Science Fair. There were a ton of 3D Printer companies showcasing their goods. Dremel had a huge table and giveaway for their new cordless tool which they were letting everybody tryout. The first people we talked with though were representatives for Raspberry Pi - a cheap credit card sized computer for use in a wide array of hobby projects. Overall this was a great experience and one of a couple things that jump-started me back into being a "maker".
